Fred Barstein

Fred Barstein, President & CEO

Fred Barstein is President, Chief Executive Officer and founder of 401kExchange. Founded in 1996, 401kExchange has become the leading business development and market intelligence provider for the 401k and retirement industry. Using a proprietary call center and web-based technology, 401kExchange helps connect Plan Sponsors with experienced, high quality Retirement Advisors and industry leading and innovative Service Providers. By identifying sales opportunities and providing due diligence services using integrated web-based tools, 401kExchange makes the current market more efficient while better serving the needs of the Sponsor and their Participants. Based in Palm Beach County, Florida, the company employs 60 full time professionals, half in the call center.

Prior to founding 401kExchange in 1996, Barstein was Vice President and Publisher of Bancroft-Whitney, California's Official Legal Publisher a division of Thomson/West. He joined Bancroft-Whitney when the firm acquired Barclays Law Publishers, where he was Editor-in-Chief and a member of the team that led the company to the Inc. Magazine 500 list of fastest growing private companies. Previous senior management positions with Reed-Elsevier, Thomson and Times Mirror honed his expertise in database publishing, market research and database development.

Barstein is an attorney, was a member of the American Bar Association and the New York State Bar. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree, cum laude, in History from Boston College and his Law Degree from Cardozo School of Law in New York. He holds Series 6, 26 and 28 licenses and was named the 17th Most Influential Person in the 401(k) Industry by 401kWire in 2008. He is a regular speaker before various Retirement Industry and E-Commerce Conferences around the country and internationally.

Randy Mysel

Randy Mysel - Chief Operating Officer

Randy Mysel is responsible for the day to day operational activities of 401kExchange, including the oversight of our proprietary market research call center, plan sponsor services, advisor and provider business development programs, and guiding the overall strategic direction of 401kExchange.

For 16 years Mr. Mysel worked for Reed/Elsevier, an international publisher of reference material. Products including the world renowned Lexis-Nexis Online, Martindale-Hubbell (legal directory), Books in Print (R.R. Bowker, publishers of the ISBN number), the Advertising Redbooks, and Marquis Who's Who. Mr. Mysel was instrumental in creating sales opportunities in advertising sales, book and CD-Rom sales, and finally in web sales. Overall, he has spent 18 years analyzing and improving the operations, sales, and customer service areas of many industry leading organizations.

Mr. Mysel, a graduate of Queens College, New York City, holds an MBA degree from Adelphi University, New York. He is a graduate of the Warwick School of Business Management Program in England.

Marcus Chandler

Marcus Chandler, 401kExchange VP-Business Development

Marcus Chandler came to 401kExchange in 2003. He is responsible for overall channel development of new opportunities in the DC retirement plan industry. He also manages business development services provided to over 600 key DC advisor client accounts. Mr. Chandler has a 10-year background in consultative sales, sales training/management, and marketing consulting.

Prior to working at 401kExchange, Mr. Chandler worked in the advertising industry at the fortune 5000 level, marketing national  brand advertising campaigns for companies such as BP Amoco, Microsoft, Cisco Systems, J.P Morgan Chase, and many others. In 1999, with the onset of the Internet as a major business medium, he founded one of the first online exchanges for the small- to mid-level mergers and acquisitions marketplace. Throughout his career, he has contributed articles to numerous publications, primarily focused on effective sales/marketing strategies and consulted on the same subject matter for many companies.

Marcus Chandler served six years in the United States Army in the 1980s and attended the University of Maryland and FAU University.

Jay Bloom

Jay Mitchell Bloom, Executive Director of Institutional Accounts

Jay Bloom joined the 401kExchange team in early 2004. He began his tenure as an Account Executive managing business development programs for over 90 Retirement Advisor clients. Jay then transferred to the 401kExchange Retirement Services Desk where he assisted in the development and launch of the 401kScout Benchmarking service.

His current responsibilities include the management of all Providers and Broker Dealers relations and assists in product development of services to support all 401kExchange Institutional clients. Jay conducts weekly web demos and travels to trade shows and speaking engagements on behalf of the company.

Prior to joining 401kExchange, Jay served as the Director of Entertainment Relations for a National food company and was instrumental in securing the venture capital and sports and entertainment personalities that catapulted Funny Bagels from a start up to a nationally recognized player in the prepackaged lunch market in less than three years.

In all, Mr. Bloom has eight years of financial, business development and marketing knowledge. He attended the University of Miami and studied Business Law and Sports Marketing and is the proud father of one.

Troy Tretola

Troy Tretola, Director of Operations

Troy Tretola became a part of 401kExchange in April 2006. He is responsible for handling the day-to-day operations of the market research call center as well as overseeing all appointment assignment distribution for over 450 advisor clients.

Mr. Tretola has over 10 years experience with call center operations. Previously he worked for the largest fundraising company in North America, Xentel, Inc. Mr. Tretola was part of the management team for two 50-personnel call centers that generated roughly 1.8 million dollars in sales each year for various benevolent charities.

Troy Tretola served four years in the United States Army as an Automated Logistics Specialists. Mr. Tretola was stationed overseas in Germany for two years as well as a combat tour for Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003.
